My Job Search

The job search sucks. I know, I've been there. In fact, I remember really well, because I was just there. But now I'm not.

During my search, I learned some things that made it a whole lot shorter. Since I remember well what your pain feels like, I wrote up those things in some eBooks, and those eBooks are available here, now, completely free.

My story:

I was looking for a job in the first part of 2010. Of the first 70 resumes I sent out, I got one phone call (less than 2% conversion rate). Not one job. Not even one live interview. A phone call.

I was so frustrated, I called it “radio silence”. I felt like I was sending signals out to the world, but absolutely no one cared. Sometimes I felt like my professional life was over. Like I would never work again.

Then I upgraded my resume, using these techniques. I sent out 30 applications, and got 2 phone calls. A 7% conversion!

Then I realized my cover letter sucked. So I upgraded that, using these techniques. I sent out 20 applications, and got 3 phone calls -- a 15% conversion rate!

But then, I did something that took me over the top. I did something that totally made me stand out. In fact, it made me rock so much that my conversion rate went up to 50% -- I would send out 10 resumes, and get 5 phone calls! Within a month, my job search was over.

I spent a total of 7 months looking for a job. Now that I look back on it, I think, man, I was totally wasting my time in the first 6 months. If I had been using the “big guns” from the start, my job search would have been, like, 1 or 2 months. I wasted 6 months. If you’re making $100,000 a year, 6 months is $50,000. I missed out on $50,000, but you don’t have to. Take what I learned, and shorten your job search.
